USF Women’s Volleyball vs. Long Beach

Rating: All-Star

If you’re looking for a night out with the family that won’t drain your wallet, a USF women’s volleyball game might just be the hidden gem you’ve been missing. The gym is intimate — no nosebleed seats here — and tickets are cheap. You’re right in the action, close enough to hear the players calling for the ball and to see the fire in their eyes.

The best part? These women play with heart. No flash, no money grabs, no fame chasing — just pure competition and fun. Honestly, it’s the exact opposite of what you sometimes see in the pros (looking at you, NBA). My daughter walked away inspired by real athletes who pour everything into the game, and that kind of example is priceless.

We grabbed a couple of hot dogs and some chips for the kids — simple, affordable, and part of the fun. That said, the USF coach seems to lean a little too hard on negative reinforcement. Watching the other squads, with their laughter, looseness, and ability to dominate, you can’t help but think he could pick up a few lessons in leadership.

Still, for the price and the experience, it’s a clear win. A hidden All-Star in San Francisco family sports.
