We Are SF – Terminal 2, SFO

Rating: All-Star

This post kicks off our Austin, Texas series — a look at the journey, the food, and the finds along the way.

Before I even landed in Austin, I had a small crisis to solve at SFO. On my way out, I realized I had forgotten to get something for a dear friend. He’s Turkish, and like so many in that culture, he’s incredibly generous with kids — always bringing gifts for mine, never letting me pay when I visit. I needed to find something thoughtful for his children, but time was short.

That’s when I stumbled across We Are SF in Terminal 2. It turned out to be the perfect spot. They had everything I needed: a children’s book about San Francisco so his kids could learn about the city he once called home, a classic wooden ball-and-cup toy for his son, and a paper airplane kit for his daughter.

The kids loved the gifts — though his boy swinging that wooden toy around in the car gave my buddy a bit of stress (he was half-sure the glass would shatter or his daughter would catch an accidental smack!). But in the end, it was a hit, and I looked like I had it all together with the perfect last-minute save.

If you ever need something thoughtful and local on your way through SFO, We Are SF has you covered.
